SHOP!

Our latest project was a two week collaboration with Illustration. It was a conceptual brief based on a different word given to each group related to shopping. We looked at compulsive buyers and decided to create something that commented on the process of a compulsive buyer feeling an urge to buy something, the hit they then get when they buy something and then often the regret afterwards. We used a £1 machine with capsules in as our medium and used it as a treatment machine. We sprayed the capsules gold so there was more mystery surrounding the machine and what was inside. People would spend a pound and receive a capsule. Inside the capsule was a £1 coin and an illustrated note suggesting the person save their money or spend more wisely. The point of giving them their pound back was to give them a second chance and to eliminate the regret, giving them a 'safe hit' as many times as they needed whilst subtly reminding them about the negative impacts of compulsive buying.

Our £1 machine will be displayed at the KK outlet on Hoxton Square along with some other outcomes from this project for a couple of days from the 24th of February. Check out KK Outlet here
